After a disastrous start to the competition marked by two defeats against South Korea (2-1) and Gambia (2-1), Les Bleuets faced Honduras. A decisive match for Landry Chauvin’s players who played their survival during this third and last day of the group stage of group F of the U20 World Cup which is currently taking place in Argentina. While the two teams went blow for blow with hot situations on both sides of the field, Ousmane Camara was sent off just before the end of the first quarter of an hour following a foul on Daniel Carter. The young French shoots were therefore already at ten after only 15 short minutes of play (13th). After this fault and the expulsion of the French defender, Honduras had a good free kick full axis near the French surface.
Odin Ramos then sent a missile into the right corner of Thimothée Lo-Tutala, beaten (15th, 1-0). Les Bleuets took a real blow on the head with this opener and it was necessary to wait several minutes before seeing the young French shoots again show themselves in attack with a nice movement initiated by Martin Adeline (28th). Just before the break, on a nice delivery from Antoine Joujou, Alan Virginius controlled the leather before continuing with an unstoppable cross shot to equalize and regain confidence in this crucial match (41st, 1-1). Upon returning from the locker room, Les Bleuets continued to project themselves to reverse the situation and snatch their qualification for the rest of the competition. Despite this slight domination by Landry Chauvin’s men, Honduras created the best situation for themselves at the start of the second period through Félix Garcia who put Thimothée Lo-Tutala to work (57th).
An elimination for a small goal
Fortunately, a few minutes later, Alan Virginius offered himself a double to continue to hope after a good cross from Sekou Lega. The tricolor striker came to propel the leather of the head into the back of the nets of Juergen García on the hour mark to revive the prospects of qualifications in the French ranks (60th, 2-1). Thanks to this realization, the qualification seemed a little more accessible. Les Bleuets then threw their last forces into battle. Brayann Pereira first armed a heavy cross shot towards the opposing goal but Juergen García did not tremble and pushed back his fists (62nd). A few minutes later, Antoine Joujou entered the area and crossed hard towards the near post for Alan Virginius while Darlin Mencia countered in extremis for a corner (64th). On a free kick kicked by Jordan Semedo Varela towards the far post, Félix Nzouango, strangely lonely, came to conclude with a header to ignite this end of the meeting (77th, 3-1).
While Thimothée Lo-Tutala made a parade on his line to preserve the suspense (82nd), Warren Bondo armed a clear shot which was diverted by the doorman of Honduras (83rd). At the very end of the game, Jordan Semedo Varela and Soungoutou Magassa obtained two new dangerous situations but luck did not smile on the young French shooters who just missed the target (88th and 89th). At the end of additional time, Sekou Lega even found the post of Honduras (90th + 1) while Wilson Odobert collapsed in the Honduran area in contact with Anfronit Tatum but the referee did not flinch and did not award a penalty to the French (90th+3). Despite this heroic performance by Landry Chauvin’s players, Les Bleuets are not among the best third and are therefore eliminated from this U20 World Cup for a small goal.
